SUMMARY OF ACTIONS TAKEN AT MAY 12, 2008 MEETING
At its meeting on May 12, 2008, the San Francisco Ethics Commission took the following actions:
- Discussed preliminary matters regarding Ethics Complaint No. 24-050928, Respondent Tony Hall. The Commission will hold a hearing on the merits in this matter at its June 9, 2008 meeting. The Commission denied the Respondent’s motion to appoint an outside hearing officer by a vote of 5-0 and also approved by a 5-0 vote decisions on the following preliminary matters: 1) a written ruling on discovery motions will be issued by the Chairperson; 2) the parties may submit a hearing brief containing witness and exhibit lists, descriptions of exhibits and testimony to be offered, and proposed lengths of direct and cross examinations of witnesses, with substantive arguments in the brief not to exceed 10 double-spaced pages; 3) the parties may submit motions in liminedue to the Commission by May 23, 2008 with
responses due by May 29, 2008; 4) the parties must submit joint exhibit binders to the Commission; 5) opening statements should not exceed 10 minutes and closing statements should not exceed 20 minutes. - Considered staff recommendations on amendments to the Lobbyist Ordinance. The Commission discussed the recommendations but deferred action until the staff has received feedback at one or more upcoming interested persons meetings.
- Approved amendments to sections 1.108, 1.112, 1.113 and 1.135 of the San Francisco Campaign and Governmental Conduct Code to correct clarify, consolidate and eliminate certain campaign finance reporting requirements and to expand the requirement to electronically file certain campaign finance reports, by a vote of 4-1.
- Discussed proposed regulations to set forth procedures regarding the enforcement of Statements of Incompatible Activities but deferred action to a future meeting.
The Commission’s next regular meeting will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 408 City Hall.
