At its special meeting on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 408 City Hall, the San Francisco Ethics Commission will consider possible amendments to its regulations regarding Government Ethics Ordinance section 3.216(b), which sets forth a ban on gifts from restricted sources. There are some limited exceptions to the restricted source gift ban rule. One exception provides that employees and officers may accept gifts from a restricted source, other than cash, with an aggregate value of $25 up to four times during a calendar year. The proposed amendments would clarify that gift cards or gift certificates that can be negotiated only at a specific vendor will not be treated as cash gifts, but gift cards that can be negotiated at any vendor are cash gifts.
The proposed amendments, along with a staff report, will be available from the Commission office and on its website when the agenda for the meeting is available on Thursday, October 14, 2010.
