SUMMARY OF ACTIONS TAKEN AT AUGUST 11, 2008 MEETING

At its meeting on August 11, 2008, the San Francisco Ethics Commission took the following actions:

  • Received testimony from Supervisor Peskin’s staff regarding proposed legislation introduced by Supervisor Daly to amend section 1.134.5 of the Campaign and Governmental Conduct Code to provide that the individual expenditure ceiling (“IEC”) of a publicly financed candidate be raised by an amount equal to the total opposition spending against that candidate—rather than requiring that such opposition spending first exceed the candidate’s IEC.  The Commission asked that the Board of Supervisors develop a legislative record supporting the proposal before returning to the Commission for further consideration at its September 8, 2008 meeting.
  • Adopted the following policy priorities for the Commission for the coming year:  (1) Education and Technology; (2) Campaign Finance Laws; (3) Communications with the Public; (4) Enforcement; (5) Conflicts of Interest; and (6) Lobbyist/Campaign Consultant Ordinances.

The Commission’s next regular meeting will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 408 City Hall.
