I. Call to order and roll call.

Chairperson Renne called the meeting to order at 9:01 AM. 

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Paul Renne, Chairperson; Brett Andrews, Vice-Chairperson. 

STAFF PRESENT: Garrett Chatfield, Investigator/Legal Analyst.

OFFICE OF THE CITY ATTORNEY: Andrew Shen, Deputy City Attorney (DCA).

OTHERS PRESENT: Bob Planthold; Larry Bush; and Elena Schmid.

II. Discussion and possible action regarding the Commission’s appointment of a new Executive Director, including interviews of applicants.

Chairperson Renne stated that the purpose of this meeting was to interview five candidates for the Executive Director position.  He stated that the interviews will be held in closed session.  He stated that the sub-committee will move any successful candidates to be interviewed by the full Commission at a subsequent Commission meeting.

Public Comment:
Larry Bush stated that he would like to know what the procedure will be in closed session regarding the interviews.  He stated that the upcoming election will have an impact on the political climate in the City and the full Commission should not interview candidates until after the election. 

Bob Planthold stated that the Commission should build any salary negotiations into its hiring timeline.

Chair Renne stated that each interview will last 45 minutes. 

Vice-Chair Andrews stated that the salary range is set by the Department of Human Resources.

Motion 151009-01 (Andrews/Renne): Moved, seconded, and passed (2-0) for the sub-committee to move into closed session in order to interview candidates for the Executive Director position.

All members of the public and staff left the meeting room.  The sub-committee moved into closed session at 9:15 AM and relocated to the Department of Human Resources at One South Van Ness Avenue to conduct the interviews.  The interviews were conducted in closed session with Chair Renne, Vice-Chair Andrews, and DCA Shen present.  The Committee came out of closed session at 4:00 PM.  No members of the public returned to the hearing room.  Chair Renne, Vice-Chair Andrews, DCA Shen, and staff member Chatfield returned to the hearing room.

Motion 151009-02 (Andrews/Renne): Moved, seconded, and passed (2-0) that the sub-committee not disclose its closed session deliberations re: interviews of candidates.

III. Adjournment.

The meeting adjourned at 4:02 PM.
