Subject: AGENDA ITEM 7 – Staff Presentation on Engagement & Compliance Programs
Summary and Action Requested
This agenda item provides general programmatic updates regarding the programs administered by the Engagement & Compliance Division of the Ethics Commission. This presentation includes an overview of the division’s responsibilities, information on initiatives being implemented, and operational statistics. No action is required by the Commission, as this item is for informational purposes only.
Background
The Engagement & Compliance Division supports filers and the public by providing compliance guidance, advice, filing assistance, training, and day-to-day administration of various programs under the Ethics Commission’s jurisdiction. The programs administered by this division include Campaign Finance, Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700), Lobbyists, Campaign Consultants, Major Developers, and Permit Consultants. These programs enhance transparency in the City & County of San Francisco by providing the public with information related to campaign spending, attempts to influence government decision making, financial interests of City Officers and employees, among other areas. The staff members in Engagement & Compliance answer questions from the regulated community, produce resources & guides related to rules and disclosure requirements, and review reports filed for timeliness and compliance to ensure the public has access to comprehensive and accurate information related to these regulated activities.
Staff will present this update at the Commission’s meeting on May 10 and be available to answer any questions from Commissioners.
