What is the purpose of the Candidates’ Training?
Under City law, Candidates for City elective office and their treasurers (and assistant treasurers who sign and verify campaign statements) must attend a training conducted by the Ethics Commission prior to each election in which the candidate’s name will appear on the ballot.
- An individual who serves as the treasurer for more than one committee is not required to attend a training if that individual has attended such a training within the previous 12 months. (See San Francisco Campaign & Governmental Conduct Code § 1.107.)
- Campaign managers, consultants, volunteers and other representatives are encouraged to attend.
Each session will consist of the following parts:
Part I
The first part of this training will focus on campaign finance requirements that apply to all candidates.
Part II
Part II will describe the voluntary expenditure ceiling, which is applicable only in the elections for offices other than the Board of Supervisors and Mayor.
Part III & IV
These portions will focus on required forms for candidates for the Board of Supervisors and will provide an overview of the Supervisorial Public Financing Program.
To confirm a seat at one of these sessions, please email the Ethics Commission at ethics.commission@sfgov.org and provide the names of the all the people who will attend, with their email and phone number, along with the candidate’s name and office sought. In addition, please feel free to contact us at (415) 252-3100 with any questions.
